A Belgian national whose partner was found dead in their second home in Saint-Raphaël (Var) was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention, we learned Thursday from the Draguignan public prosecutor's office.
The man called for help on Tuesday at 4:45 a.m. explaining that he had just found his partner dead next to him in the studio where they had been staying for several weeks.
Resuscitation attempts were in vain and the presence of numerous hematomas and bruises all over the woman's body prompted investigators to place the companion in police custody.
During the investigation, the man denied any act of violence against his partner.
A neighbor reported hearing sounds of an argument the night of the tragedy, but investigators did not find any traces of a struggle in the studio.
At the end of police custody, the companion was indicted for intentional homicide by a spouse and placed in pre-trial detention.
