“The National Front is Pontius Pilate,” Jean-Yves Le Drian, guest of
Franceinfo,
accused this morning ,
the day after a vote in the National Assembly confirming a new support plan from France to Ukraine.
“There are some who wash their hands, [...] and it is serious to call into question the intangibility of borders,”
continued the former Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The diplomat first welcomed the
"emergence of a democratic bloc which goes beyond traditional political divisions on support for Ukraine"
, before castigating the choice of Marine Le Pen's party not to vote on support plan for the Chamber of Deputies.
In line with the presidential camp's strategy of widening a divide with the National Rally in view of the European elections on the question of Ukraine, Jean-Yves Le Drian was, however, less forthcoming on the position of France Insoumise which voted against the support plan for Ukraine on Wednesday.
“This is nothing new, Mr. Mélenchon has always been close to the criteria of the Soviet Union, he must be left to his fantasies
,” commented the former minister.

Jean-Yves Le Drian also defended the words of the President of the Republic who affirmed that France had no limits in its support for Ukraine, including on a possible sending of troops, while remaining deliberately ambiguous.
“We must not create limits on France's playing field so as not to reveal its game
,” said the former minister.
“It’s called strategic ambiguity, it’s sowing doubt among the adversary [...] it’s an essential element of armed conflicts
. ”
“The limit of cobelligerence is a difficult line to maintain: we must fully support Ukraine and prevent Russia from winning
,” he commented.
Indiscriminate hyperviolence
On the conflict in Gaza, Jean-Yves Le Drian showed himself to be intractable with the war led by Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7.
“This indiscriminate hyperviolence is appalling, revolting.
Are we trying to eradicate Hamas?
It is not by eliminating thousands of children, women, men that we will eradicate Hamas.
[...] It is a scandalous disaster, it is a disaster for Israel, which is preparing generations of people who will live in resentment
,” he said.
The former head of French diplomacy also regretted that Iran was the
“big winner”
of this new war.
“Iran has finally shown that Israel is not completely invincible.
Iran has put the Palestinian question at the heart of the debates and is becoming its spokesperson.
Iran uses its proxies, and meanwhile continues its operations to obtain nuclear weapons
.
Finally, when asked about the upcoming American presidential election, the former minister also mentioned the
“long history of isolationism”
of the United States, of which Donald Trump would be the
“most extreme, the most nationalist, the most unpredictable”
representative. .
“When London was bombed in 1940, the United States supported the country but did not intervene
. ”
In this area,
“Trump 2 will do more and better than Trump 1
,” he said.
