The main argument of opponents of the 2004 law was that it would lead to young Muslim girls dropping out of school, since they would be deprived of the possibility of wearing the Islamic headscarf in class.
However, when we follow the evolution of young girls from Muslim families over the generations, we today arrive at the opposite conclusion: the ban on the veil coincided with a clear improvement in their academic results.
Compared to girls from non-Muslim families, girls from Muslim families saw their results improve after the veil was banned in class.
