1 / 14After theater appearances and smaller film roles, Fritz Wepper (r.) achieved his international breakthrough in 1958 with the anti-war film “Die Brücke”.

2 / 14In “Die Brücke” Fritz Wepper (r.) played the 16-year-old Albert Mutz, who was called up for the Wehrmacht shortly before the end of the war in April 1945 - as were six of his friends.

The film received the German Television Award five times, the Golden Globe for best foreign film and an Oscar nomination in the same category.

The musical film adaptation won a total of eight Oscars at the 1973 Academy Awards.

Munich – After a hospital stay due to blood poisoning, Fritz Wepper (82) was transferred to a hospice.

The “Derrick” star, who is suffering from cancer, is considered to have completed his treatment and is now spending his twilight years in the facility.

Among other things, his daughter (12) gives Fritz Wepper strength.

He had already announced in October 2023 that he wanted to retire as an actor.

With his career, which even took off internationally in 1959, he left big footsteps in the film industry.
