There was great regret when the Edeka on Marktstrasse in Bad Tölz closed at the beginning of the year.

A new use is now being prepared for the empty premises.

Bad Tölz

- Behind the shop windows of the former Edeka market on Tölzer Marktstrasse something was stirring again in the last few days.

Apparently preparations are underway for a new use.

However, this will only be a temporary solution for the time being: the glasses retailer Fielmann will move into temporary quarters here.

Fielmann moves into the former Edeka for a limited period of time

“Due to the pleasing influx of customers, our branch at Marktstrasse 57 has now become too small,” explains a company spokeswoman when asked by our newspaper.

Therefore, a renovation and modernization of the existing premises is planned.

In this context, an expansion of the area by 130 square meters is planned.

“In the future, we will be able to offer our customers three additional sales tables, three additional refraction rooms and a hearing acoustics department.”

During the renovation work, Fielmann is moving to an “interim area” at Marktstrasse 53 – i.e. in the former Edeka.

This happens after Easter.

“We will stay there for about three months,” said the press spokeswoman.

In this way, customers “remain the usual Fielmann service”.

The homeowner now has room for further considerations

Homeowner Hermann Elmering describes this interim use as a “surprising and good interim solution”.

This gives him “a few months of breathing space” to think about what will happen to the house in the long term.

As reported, the house had housed a supermarket for decades.

It used to be called Tengelmann, most recently Edeka.

The business closed at the beginning of the year - something that even city center resident Edith Langreiner, who collected 2,500 signatures to preserve the Edeka, was unable to change.

An Edeka spokesman justified the end of the market by saying that the location no longer met the requirements “that we place on a sustainable market”.

He accused the landlord of a “lack of willingness to modernize or renovate”.
