Highlights: “There is no deal”: District administrator speaks plainly in the dispute over refugee accommodation in the gym. 1,000 new places for asylum seekers are currently being planned. Gyms in Farchet and Geretsried should become free - even without a fixed deal, says district administrator. “Since places are scarce, we ultimately have no choice but to use the exceptions to build accommodation for asylum seeker. This is the only way to generate enough places,” writes Josef Niedermaier.

The gymnasium will no longer be used as accommodation when new spaces are created: that has been agreed, it was said.

The district administrator refutes this claim.

Wolfratshausen/Geretsried - A new accommodation will - in all likelihood - be built in the Wolfratshausen industrial area for refugees.

Some Wolfratshausen residents had hopes for the expected building, which could accommodate around 150 people: the Farcheter multi-purpose hall could be freed up by the new facility.

As reported, it has been occupied by refugees for over a year.

At the building committee meeting in which the new accommodation was discussed, Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner emphasized, as reported, that he trusted “the word of the district administrator”.

He announced in a mayoral meeting that the multi-purpose hall would be evacuated if the accommodation was built.

A few days later, accommodation was also discussed in Geretsried.

And there was talk of a “deal” between the district and the city of Wolfratshausen.

Now District Administrator Josef Niedermaier speaks out himself.

District administrator speaks plainly about the asylum debate in Wolfratshausen and Geretsried: “There is no deal”

“There is no deal of any kind with the city of Wolfratshausen or with any other municipality, as was reported at the meeting in Geretsried,” the district office writes in a press release.

The goal, which I clearly formulated in several meetings with the mayors, is to return the two gymnasiums to their original use as quickly as possible.

This requires new places.

Niedermaier speaks of around 350 to 400 places - “in addition to other new accommodations”.

Around 80 to 100 asylum seekers per month would continue to be assigned to the district.

“Every additional accommodation helps us achieve this goal.”

1,000 new places for asylum seekers are currently being planned.

“Unfortunately, these plans are still not distributed evenly across the entire district, but the situation is better than last summer,” said Niedermaier.

At that time, the district administrator was forced to make an announcement: Any municipality that does not fulfill its target according to the Königstein key should be obliged to accept asylum seekers.

There were complaints against it.

Furthermore, the three towns in the district in particular are “overachievers” - i.e. they offer significantly more refugees accommodation than they should in comparison to the neighboring municipalities.

Gyms in Farchet and Geretsried should become free - even without a fixed deal

Niedermaier: “It is clear to me that these projects are sometimes met with dissatisfaction by many neighbors and also by the cities and communities affected or are perceived as a burden.” You can see this in the barriers to change - like in Geretsried - in the discussions or in the Rejection of building applications - as in Wolfratshausen and Geretsried.

“But the fact is that the legislature has clearly given priority to the creation of asylum accommodation through extensive exemptions in building law.”

The district building authority is currently examining the relevant building applications “like any other building application based on the legal regulations”.

It is expected that the buildings will be approved by the district authority, although the cities had rejected it, as reported.

“Since places are scarce, we ultimately have no choice but to use the exceptions to build accommodation for asylum seekers.

This is the only way to generate enough places and only then will there be a chance of making both gyms available to students and club athletes again as soon as possible,” writes Niedermaier.
