Daniel Thioune was a fan favorite in Osnabrück as a player and coach for 13 years.
As coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf, he made a successful return on Friday evening.
Osnabrück - Fortuna Düsseldorf has presented a convincing performance in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga.
The cup semi-finalist won 4-0 (1-0) at bottom-placed VfL Osnabrück on Friday evening and pushed Hamburger SV out of the relegation spot for the time being.
The Greek Christos Tzolis scored his sixth goal in the last five second division games and his 15th goal of the season overall in the 35th minute.
Takashi Uchino (60th), Marlon Mustapha (72nd) and Ao Tanaka (88th) added three more goals in the second half.
They gave Düsseldorf coach Daniel Thioune a successful return to the Bremer Brücke.
The 49-year-old was active as a player, youth coach and head coach at VfL for a total of 13 years.
“That was a very mature and brutally calm performance from my team,” said Thioune on Sky.
“There are still eight rounds to go - and we're there!” Fortuna had the better chances from the start.
Mustapha alone initially missed three of them (3rd/16th/30th).
The Osnabrück team didn't do enough offensively.
The promotion candidate from Düsseldorf was clearly better in terms of play.
