There are not only swift warblers and toads among the reed beds of the Loire.
Thursday March 14, a boatman discovered a human body, in an advanced state of decomposition, swollen by putrefaction, which was floating on the surface of the river, near the town of Cordemais, about twenty kilometers downstream from Nantes.
Immediately alerted by the sailor, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service dispatched firefighters-divers from Couëron to the scene, who proceeded to recover the body.
This was located around midday on the banks of the river, at the western end of Cordemais.
According to a source close to the case, it is not impossible that the body could have floated from Donges.
Even from the Saint-Nazaire bridge, known to be a hotspot for suicide attempts in the department.
“No preferred track”
Once extracted from the water, the body was transported to the town of Pellerin, where the rescuers passed it on to their fellow gendarmes.
“No lead is currently favored, and it is still too early to identify the person,”
the Loire-Atlantique gendarmerie
told Le
Figaro .
A forensic autopsy was expected during the day on Friday.
Its results will not be known until next week.
