Signed “an angry dad”, the message posted on social networks by Julien Daviaud continues to generate shares and comments.

On Sunday March 10, the pediatric emergencies at the Saintes hospital center refused to take care of her 13-month-old daughter Lou, who was then in respiratory distress.

His parents, first aider and caregiver, had nevertheless respected the instructions now imposed on families.

After contacting the 15th, they went to the medical center located in the same establishment and obtained a letter ordering the medical staff to hospitalize their child.

Wasted effort: overwhelmed, the pediatric emergencies remained closed.

The only solution offered to Julien Daviaud and his partner: go to Cognac, in Charente, or to Rochefort located more than 40 km away.

“We live in Saintes, less than a kilometer from the hospital.

Cognac does not have pediatric emergencies and we did not know if Rochefort could accommodate us,” emphasizes Julien Daviaud, then confronted with the worsening state of health of his daughter.

Contacted again, on the 15th ended up sending the Smur de Saintes to… the square in front of the hospital where this family was waiting.

After emergency first aid, the child was finally transported to Rochefort and will remain hospitalized there for two days – Lou is now doing well.

Julien Daviaud denounces “the lack of humanity” of the hospital institution.

If he does not intend to burden healthcare workers, this father wonders: “How can we turn a blind eye to a vital emergency?

Has the pressure become so great for caregivers?

I posted this message on social networks so that things change and a tragedy doesn’t happen.”

If “adrenaline” allowed Julien Daviaud and his partner to keep calm during this ordeal, this couple has been showing signs of abuse ever since.

“The fear came later… We were lucky not to give in to panic,” said this father.

But what would have happened with parents who don't know the system?

» Contacted by “Le Parisien”, the management of the Saintes hospital center claims for its part to have launched “an internal investigation” without providing further explanations.

After operating “in degraded mode” in recent months, this establishment recently triggered the White plan to reorganize its services and try to reduce “hospital tensions”.

The pediatric emergencies of Saintes were themselves closed from August 7 to October 31, 2023. Recruitment difficulties were then reported.
