"The Government should launch a consultation table of representatives of the end-of-life vehicle supply chain (manufacturers, dismantlers, recyclers) to define a shared position on the next European Regulation relating to End of Life Vehicles (ELV) to be brought to Europe".

This is the appeal that emerged during the conference "From Directive 2000/53/EC to a new European Regulation for Elvs", promoted at the Techemet plant in Ciriè (Turin) by Assoambiente, the association representing companies operating in the urban hygiene, recycling, recovery, circular economy, waste disposal and reclamation, under the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Turin and in collaboration with Ecoeuro.

An initial positive response to the appeal came from the Deputy Minister for the Environment and Energy Security Vannia Gava who underlined that "today the Nimby syndrome must be fought by making technologically advanced entrepreneurial realities known.

Italy is a model of circular economy at European level and cannot not be listened to. In the vehicle demolition sector we need to make a leap in quality, also because the recycling operations of vehicle components can help us find critical raw materials. The new Regulation will help achieve the expected results by standardizing the legislative framework. We are available, as done in the past, to once again open dialogue with all the representatives of the supply chain and act as spokespersons in Europe for a shared proposal".

The conclusions were entrusted to the president of Assoambiente Chicco Testa according to whom "today we need legislation that stimulates technological innovation and the ability of companies to deal with problems in this sector too. We need to strengthen the synergy between all the components of the supply chain to define a position that then the Italian government can support in Europe".
