Brenner northern inlet on the existing site: The citizens' initiative from Aßling is addressing its core demands to the Bundestag and Deutsche Bahn.
Aßling/district
- So-called core demands can be made locally to the railways and the Bundestag regarding the planned expansion of the Brennern north inlet in the Ebersberg district.
This opportunity was used not only by local politicians, but also by the “Brenner-Nordzulauf Landkreis Ebersberg Citizens' Initiative”, which, with a focus on Aßling, insists on building the two planned new tracks from Grafing towards Ostermünchen close to existing ones.
Sticking points: Aßlinger train station, Elkofen water protection area
The existing parallel route is also reflected in the core demands passed by the district council in December, as well as the demand for maximum tunnel proportions, noise protection to new building standards and an enclosure for the Aßlinger train station.
Another important concern: the preservation of the drinking water protection area near Elkofen.
Here the citizens' initiative assumes that the railway made errors in the assessment.
They had already submitted their own, legally verified, core demands in January, which were now presented to around 100 visitors at a white sausage breakfast in the Lorenzenberg village community center.
Demand: Atteltal Bridge should be smaller
(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)
Essentially, it is about an “optimized form” of the turquoise “citizen route” that runs parallel to the existing system, which the railway included in the evaluation process and then rejected.
Using the maximum permissible longitudinal inclination, the Atteltal Bridge should be shortened to 515 meters and lowered by 20 meters instead of being 1,370 meters long and 28.5 meters high.
The water protection area near Elkofen would be best served by not driving through it at all - this is achieved with the existing route.
Like the district, the BI is calling for the Aßlingen train station to be enclosed.
Criticism of general renovation a few years before expansion
The BI is criticizing a general renovation of the existing tracks planned between 2027 and 2029, which would have to be closed for several months.
It “lacks any logic” not to link this with the construction of the burner inlet a few years later, which also comes with restrictions.
The bottom line is that the BI argues that there will be cost savings of at least 340 million euros and 68 percent less CO2 emissions - a calculation that the railway has always rejected.
