There are 8.9 million Italians who spent a holiday in the snow between January and March.

Of these, 6.5 million took a skiing holiday, while 2.4 chose to concentrate their holidays on weekends.

The turnover will be equal to 6.1 billion euros, of which 4.3 billion are for ski weeks.

For one-week holidays, 95.5% remain in Italy with 72.6% going to the northern regions and only 22.9% to the central-southern ones also due to the low snowfall in the Apennines.

For weekends, 38.6% choose the Centre-South, 61.4% the North.

It emerges from the Federalberghi report produced by Tecnè.

Italians book at least a month in advance and mainly choose to stay in hotels;

they dedicate themselves to skiing and in general to sporting activities, walks and experiences linked to food and wine events;

they are ready to give up overly expensive locations due to their lower spending capacity, but not the possibility of staying in the mountains, perhaps adjusting the aim to avoid going over the budget.

    "For us it is a good confirmation that arrives close to Easter, which gives us hope. We have had moments of difficulty, fearing that winter tourism could be penalized in terms of performance by the lack of snowfall. The direct consequence is evident above all for this which concerns the Apennines. Currently the peaks are well covered in snow and the scenario could change. We are certainly increasingly admired by the fact that our fellow citizens continue to prefer Italian destinations when planning their trips" comments the president of Federalberghi, Bernabò Bocca.

"The hotel solution remains the favorite during the ski holiday period, a nice breath of fresh air for our businesses. All this is an excellent omen. What works against the prospect of a holiday, whatever period we want to talk about, is unfortunately the "impact of lower spending capacity. According to our survey, 7 out of 10 Italians have had to deal with price increases, orienting their choices differently. And for us this - he concludes - can never be good news".
