In summer, many German holidaymakers are drawn to Italy.

But not everything has been discovered there yet.

Whether it's Lake Garda, Lido di Jesolo, Bibione or Lake Maggiore - Germans know which vacation spots in Italy they like and remain loyal to them year after year.

“We see that many holidaymakers from Germany have established their travel preferences,” says Jonas Upmann, the travel expert at the holiday home booking portal

HomeToGo

.

But the Germans' favorites are not necessarily the locals' favorites, as an analysis by the portal has shown.

So if you're looking for a bit of variety and want to get to know authentic Italy, you could follow in their footsteps.

To find out what Italians' insider tips are,

HomeToGo

analyzed the local search queries on its Italian domain

hometogo.it

and compared them with those of search queries from Germany.

It has become clear that there are definitely travel destinations in Italy that are very popular with locals - but are hardly on the radar of German vacationers.

For German vacationers, Marina di Camerota is only in 1,707th place in searches – not an impressive position.

However, things look different when it comes to search queries from Italians: the coastal town is already in 33rd place. The holiday resort is located in the Cilento region about 100 kilometers south of Naples, a cultural landscape that has so far been spared from large influxes of tourists is.

Holidaymakers can stroll along the promenade, explore the well-preserved old town or enjoy the sun on the beach.

In the area, excursionists will also find mystical grottoes and spectacular rocky outcrops.

Gaeta, Lazio

Located between Rome and Naples, the tranquil port town of Gaeta is located on a headland.

Holidaymakers can enjoy a wonderful view of the medieval city center and the sea from the Church of San Francesco.

The place is especially popular because of its beautiful sandy beach, the Spaggia de Serapo.

A little insider tip nearby is the Trecento Gradini beach, which can be reached via 300 steps.

Gaeta is the 37th most popular holiday destination for Italians - but only 970 for Germans.

On

In Germany he only made it to 646th place.

The region is characterized by white sandy beaches between steep rock faces, interrupted by fairytale-like grottos and bays.

Sicily, Sardinia, Capri, Elba, Ischia – all of these islands are known to vacationers in Italy from Germany.

But what about the Isola del Giglio in the Tyrrhenian Sea?

Here tourists come across almost untouched nature full of secluded bays, idyllic hiking trails and beautiful sandy beaches.

Another highlight is the picturesque harbor town of Giglio Porto with its colorful houses.

The search ranking on HomeToGo

also shows how unknown the island is among German vacationers

- Giglio doesn't even make it into the "best" 2,500 vacation spots.

The Italians are in 53rd place.
