Minimal solution or a fun pool?

The concept for the new indoor swimming pool at Tegernsee is being hotly debated.

Working group chairman Robert Kühn (SPD) takes a stand in an interview.

Tegernsee Valley

- An indoor sports pool without any frills: The valley-wide working group presented this concept at the information event in the Rottach Seeforum.

It has now become clear that the minimal solution is controversial.

Among other things, the Rottach local council wants to examine alternatives.

We asked Wiessee's mayor Robert Kühn (SPD), who is also chairman of the working group, how he assessed the discussions.

Mr. Kühn, the concept of a “purpose indoor swimming pool” is being discussed very controversially after the information event.

Even within local councils.

Does that surprise you?

Robert Kühn:

It was clear that there would be discussions in the local councils.

That's exactly why we went public with our valley-wide event.

It would be better if we discussed the possibilities now rather than saying at the end: There would have been one or two other wishes.

But the working group, in which all local councilors were represented, agreed that only a minimal solution was possible?

Robert Kühn:

Yes, that was the clear recommendation of the entire working group.

The concept of a functional indoor swimming pool is the result of a year of constructive work.

But being constructive doesn't mean that we haven't had very lively discussions here too.

Do you personally understand that some citizens, landlords and even the local council want more than this minimal solution?

Robert Kühn:

Of course I can understand that.

But in the end we simply have to ask ourselves: What is affordable in this community of solidarity?

This isn't about dream castles.

I am sure that ultimately the discussions will bring us back down to earth.

The Waakirchen local council has already made it clear that financing for the place is not feasible.

If the intermunicipal project falters, should one or two municipalities withdraw?

Robert Kühn:

A clear no.

We have financially strong communities around Tegernsee - four communities in the valley are among the top levy payers in the district.

Now that doesn't mean we can afford everything.

But we will get the new indoor swimming pool done.

The hope was that the new indoor swimming pool would come as quickly as possible.

Do valley residents now have to expect major delays?

Robert Kühn:

Once it was clear that there would be discussions, the timing was almost priced in.

But of course: the more we discuss alternatives, the more time it will take.

If the working group's concept were accepted by all local councils, we could start construction the day after tomorrow.

That's how it will be the day after tomorrow.

The indoor swimming pool is not yet on the agenda at the announced meetings next week.

When will the Bad Wiessee local council discuss the indoor swimming pool?

Robert Kühn:

We will do this very promptly.

And we will certainly discuss it because we take the voices of citizens seriously.

In my opinion, the debate in our committee will result in us sticking to the working group's recommendation.

In Bad Wiessee we already have decades of experience with pool expertise.

We had already planned a fun pool before and we just know what goes into it.
