Domenico Lacerenza defines the rumors of his retirement as baseless.
Pd sources made this known in relation to the Repubblica article entitled 'Domenico Lacerenza towards retirement'.
Lacerenza, head of the Department of Ophthalmology of Potenza, is the candidate of the progressive front for the presidency of the Basilicata Region.
In the morning, however, activists, mayors, trade union administrators and leaders of the Democratic Party and the Lucanian centre-left had formalized the request for withdrawal in a document released by Giovanni Petruzzi, coordinator of the Cuperlo motion at the time: "Withdraw the candidacy of Domenico Lacerenza or we promote the center of Lucanian pride".
Petruzzi also defined it as "very appropriate and urgent" for the regional leadership of the Democratic Party to be convened, "which has never discussed or decided on Lacerenza's candidacy for president".
"In Basilicata the political numbers say that if the center-left were united it would have a consistent margin on paper", said the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region and of the Democratic Party,
Stefano Bonaccini
, on 'L'aria che tira' on La 7. "We need to use the next few hours to ask for an effort of unity. We don't necessarily have to bring everyone together but in a season in which the center-right has the wind at its back I ask everyone to make an effort of responsibility to find the reasons to stay united. Work - he concluded - to unite without vetoes for anyone".
