The market town has enjoyed the status of a climatic health resort since the good old days of “summer resort”, which was officially confirmed at some point.

At that time, the railway and Ammersee shipping provided a lot of “recreational stays for city dwellers in the countryside in the summer,” as the Brothers Grimm defined summer vacation in their dictionary.

Dießen - The most recent local council meeting discussed the continuation of the official “climatic health resort” seal.

According to the government of Upper Bavaria, recertification as a climatic health resort is due this year.

This requires a comprehensive review of the “air quality and bioclimatic requirements”, which, according to the cheapest offer, costs 1,768 euros gross.

In addition, according to the government, a “medical assessment” is necessary.

A medical climatologist from the LMU Munich was recommended to the market town, who charged 4,165 euros gross plus travel costs for her assessment.

The application also requires a statement from the district office on local hygiene with aspects such as air, soil and water, the latter in coordination with the water management office.

The amount of these costs could not yet be named, but according to Mayor Sandra Perzul it is in the four-digit range.

Financing the climatic health resort seal?

Too few overnight guests for the tourism contribution

A proposed cost coverage through spa fees was rejected because of the excessive administrative effort.

The administration also checked whether the requirements for introducing a tourism contribution were met.

For this to happen, the number of overnight stays per year would have to exceed seven times the number of inhabitants, i.e. 74,354.

According to the evaluation by gwt-Starnberg, which is responsible for Dießen tourism, there were only 60,646 last year.

With one dissenting vote, the local council approved the extraordinary costs for the recertification of the climatic health resort seal, although only 3,000 euros were budgeted in the current budget.

After the meeting, some visitors discussed whether the expensive addition of “climatic health resort” was convincing as an argument for a longer holiday stay.

Above all, Dießen needs to advertise more, as the neighboring community of Utting does in an exemplary manner, even at the town entrances.

The health guest

“The death of the climatic health resorts” was the title of a recent report by Spiegel, according to which there are only around 300 communities in Germany with this rating - including Dießen and Utting as the only ones in the Landsberg district.

Health resorts are “places according to the rules”.

According to the German Health Spa Ordinance, they should “make their good air quality available to guests to an increased extent.” To do this, the communities would have to align their infrastructure with “health-oriented guests”.

These include “park-like quiet areas, a well-kept townscape with relaxed development, accessibility and no through traffic”.

There is plenty of this in Dießen with the state roads St2055 and St2056, but the lake facilities and the community bathing areas as leisure and relaxation oases more than compensate for this.

Schondorf, on the other hand, renounces its climatic health resort title.
