The formal requirements for the new church school building have been completed.

The city council in Germering has finally approved the development plan for the area.

Germering - Regardless of this, concrete plans for future transport development were presented after the decision.

A good year and a half ago, the city council decided to build a new school on Kirchenstrasse.

The mega project will cost around 125 million euros.

It is planned that the existing building will be gradually demolished from June and replaced by three learning houses, a triple gymnasium and a children's house.

The city council has now unanimously approved the development planning required for the new building as a statute.

The comments received during the second phase of public interpretations no longer required any significant changes.

The traffic

A recurring theme in this phase of the proceedings was the traffic problem.

According to the plans, the school will in future be accessed primarily from Augsburger and Hörwegstrasse - the current access via Kirchenstrasse will only be possible to a limited extent.

There is now a concept to solve the traffic problem, especially on the narrow Hörwegstrasse, which has now been presented for the first time - but only informally.

According to Heike Thorwächter from the city's building authority, this will not be specifically discussed until another meeting.

buses

The most important point of the ideas presented by planner Christian Ostermann: Hörwegstrasse can be designed from the junction with Untere Bahnhofstrasse in the west to Richard-Wagner-Strasse in such a way that a six meter wide roadway is available.

It is necessary so that two oncoming buses can pass each other.

At the same time, two meter wide sidewalks are also possible on both sides of the street, with a few exceptions.

Children who go to school on the southern sidewalk and therefore have to cross the street will in future only be able to do so at a fixed, assigned place - railings to the left and right of this should prevent them from simply walking across the street.

Wider sidewalks

City architect Jürgen Thum recalled that there would have been more space for wider sidewalks if a one-way street rule had been introduced.

The cycling club (ADFC), among others, had repeatedly called for this.

To do this, the entire Hörwegstrasse from Spange to Untere Bahnhofstrasse would have had to be made one-way, although this would only be necessary for around 50 meters.

This was not proportionate.

Planners and the city council had therefore not pursued this solution any further.

According to Heike Thorwächter, the traffic planners solved the problems that some city councilors had seen in the area of the Marian Column.

In the future, a small underground car park and above-ground parking spaces for teachers will be accessed from Augsburger Straße.

The access road leads past the Marian Column.

To prevent cars from accidentally driving over the planting in front of the column, new, clearly visible curbs will be installed.
