Elke Paulus loved art.

Elke Paulus from Puchheim was, among other things, committed to the construction of the Pinakothek der Moderne.
She died at the age of 81.
Puchheim – Elke Paulus was already an enthusiastic culture lover when she went to secondary school in Kassel.
In 1955, at the age of 13, she attended the first Documenta (and later, with one exception, all the others).
She went to the theater, to concerts, to exhibitions.
In order to inspire other young people to do this, she arranged tickets for events at her school, where she was a student representative.
Culture and volunteer work – these were to become two big constants in the life of the daughter of a village mayor, who was born in 1942.

In Pforzheim, where the savings bank specialist lived with her husband Manfred and son Sven from 1974, she worked in a municipal gallery for almost 20 years.
Their family life is said to have taken place there during this time, as the Puchheim Cultural Association writes in an obituary for its former chairwoman.
Adopted hometown
Puchheim was the family's adopted home from 1993.
Thanks to her many contacts, Elke Paulus was able to seamlessly immerse herself in the Munich art scene.
She initially committed herself to the construction of the Pinakothek der Moderne and from 2003 contributed to the blossoming of the cultural landscape in Puchheim.
She wanted to reach the general population with art exhibitions, cabaret, pocket operas, chamber music, jazz and theater - and support the artists as best she could.
In her private life, Elke Paulus loved fine art, especially operas and classical music.
She had around 100 different interpretations of Vivaldi's “Four Seasons” on CD.
Foreign countries
She was also interested in the cultures of foreign countries.
Together with her husband she went on boat trips to East Asia, the Amazon and the Arctic.
A number of large events such as “Puchheim Lives” or the “Kulturale” would have been unthinkable without Elke Paulus.
When she received the Citizen's Silver Medal in 2020, it was her second time - she had also received this award in Pforzheim.
In the pedestrian zone there, the sculpture “The Fat One” - a popular meeting place for citizens - still reminds us of Elke Paulus, because it was her commitment to collecting donations that made the purchase of the figure possible.
