The senior kitchen, offered by the Walpertskirchen neighborhood help group, is booming.

The club wants to take part in the local anniversary with a bowling alley and a potato steamer.

Walpertskirchen - With 3,907 meals in the seniors' kitchen, "all records were broken" in 2023, said operations manager Beate Aust of the Walpertskirchener Neighborhood Aid when she looked back at the very well-attended annual general meeting in the Büchlmann inn.

That is an “insane number”.

600 more meals were cooked than last year.

315.5 hours were worked in caring for the elderly and the sick, 103.25 in domestic help and 22.5 hours in childcare, while under “Other” a further 117.5 hours totaled.

In total, the helpers were in demand for 558.75 hours.

The visiting service was deployed 27 times.

The driving services recorded 790 kilometers.

Four people now also offer homework support in the primary school.

“Neighborhood assistance works.

“We are helping,” said the operations manager, thanking everyone for their willingness to help.

Aust, who is also part of the festival committee management for the community's 1275th anniversary, advocated taking an active part in the festival weekend in mid-July.

The festival year under the motto “In Kini’s Times” aims to turn the wheel of history back to the year 1850.

It is planned to build an old bowling alley.

“A few bowling pins wasn't right,” said Aust.

A potato steamer will also be used to offer tasty potatoes with quark.

A historical exhibition is also in the works.

Exhibits would still be needed for this.

Old clothing and fabrics for the historic village festival are also being sought.

The operations manager wanted people to “work a lot and celebrate a lot.”

There was also great praise at the meeting for “the hard-working team of reading sponsors,” said chairwoman Rita Reichwein.

The team offered numerous reading activities, reached a lot of children and took part in the community's holiday program.

The reading sponsors also presented a book table at the school festival to encourage people to enjoy reading.

In addition, the book table in the local Raiffeisen bank and the book telephone booth in the town center are regularly stocked with reading material.

In 2023, lectures, excursions and social events were organized to mark the 20th anniversary of the association, which currently has 186 members.

This year, among other things, a trip to Mühldorf and a musical reading in the Knirschvogelhaus are planned.

Mayor Franz Hörmann praised the unselfish commitment as exemplary and said: “Lots of positive reports.” This is all the more remarkable in view of a society in which many people are apparently dissatisfied.

“Are we really doing so badly?” Hörmann questioned critically.

Neighborhood assistance is “a beacon in the community” and shows “that there is another way.”

The community leader referred to the unbureaucratic help and thanked them for the voluntary work.

“What's next with local shopping opportunities, what's next with the doctor's office?” He addressed two central topics and promised: “We are working on both topics with all our might.” Even if it is partly “a fight against windmills”. .
