Cinema fans can breathe a sigh of relief: This Friday, the Schongau warehouse cinema is opening its doors again.

They had to wait two months for it after the damage caused by the pigeons being driven away.

The insurance covers the costs after the near accident.

Schongau

– “We are currently putting the finishing touches on everything,” says Georg Werner, who runs the warehouse cinema.

Together with Barbara Hoheisel-Wühr, he ensured yesterday that cinema guests can now feel comfortable again.

“A new carpet came in and they put in a new ceiling,” says Werner.

Even insulation has been installed, adds Hoheisel-Wühr, which will certainly benefit the indoor climate.

“The charm is back”

She briefly strokes the orange plush armchairs.

“You’ve made it really nice, we can be happy with that – the charm is back.”

Werner particularly praises the collaboration with the city of Schongau: “It took a while, but the city was very cooperative and everything went smoothly,” he says, thanking us.

His special thanks go to city treasurer Kurt Konrad and Benedikt Huber, who has been closely associated with the warehouse cinema for many years.

“We are happy that it is safe to sit here again,” said Hoheisel-Wühr.

That was no longer the case in January, Werner remembers.

During the city's attempt to flush out around 120 pigeons from under the roof of the warehouse, Schongau's pigeon keeper Sabine Helbig unknowingly walked on a light, non-load-bearing ceiling structure - simple plasterboard that had been used to suspend the cinema ceiling many years ago.

After the pigeon droppings trickled into the cinema, the operator closed it

Fortunately, Helbig obviously didn't really trust the attic herself because it cracked dangerously when she entered, as she reported to SN.

Nothing happened to her, but the ceiling formwork still broke open in various places.

When pieces threatened to come off and pigeon droppings began to trickle into the cinema, Werner took no risks and locked the screening room.

The insurance will cover the costs of the renovation.

“The expert confirmed that it was a clear insured event.

“It doesn’t put a financial burden on us,” said the cinema operator.

The loss of earnings has not yet been finally regulated, but his tax advisor is currently working on the calculation.

Average income over five years would have to be used.

“I just hope that the two Corona years are left out, because we were forced to stay closed for a long time because of the strict distance regulations.”

“Investing in the future”

Barbara Hoheisel-Wühr is pleased about the reopening and is sure: “It was an investment in the future, the catchment area is huge.” Cinemagoers also come from Weilheim, who would now be complaining about the upcoming closure of the Starlight cinema (we reported).
