The Obersöchering local council has approved a budget worth almost 6.5 million euros for 2024.

The good news is that all investments in the asset budget should be financed without taking out new loans.

Treasurer Josef Kinshofer nevertheless urged “economical household management”.

Obersöchering - If you look at the raw numbers, you can confidently say that the municipal finances in Obersöchering are well organized.

The debt level of the village, which has almost 1,600 inhabitants, is currently around 1.9 million euros.

The amount relates to the financing of the residential building with an integrated village shop on the main street.

The infrastructure project in the village center, completed in 2019, is supported by a loan that is part of the municipal funding program for the creation of rental housing in Bavaria.

The interest rate is just 0.99 percent per year and is fixed for the entire term of 30 years.

All in all, a good deal for Söchering.

The debts are also put into perspective when one takes into account the financial cushion that has been saved.

In order to finance the investment program in the capital budget (including the procurement of a new fire engine and the development of the solar park on the site of the old gravel pit), a generous dip into the reserves will probably be necessary this year (around 1.2 million euros).

But according to the budget planning, the cushion will still be an impressive sum of around 3.3 million euros towards the end of 2024.

Chamberlain speaks plainly

Josef Kinshofer, the treasurer of the Habach administrative community, also spoke to the Söchering local council about a “good budget for 2024”.

However: “It would be very good if there weren’t certain imponderables.” Kinshofer referred to the high energy prices, rising personnel costs and fluctuations in trade tax revenue.

As the treasurer emphasized, these are “carefully” set at 650,000 euros in the budget.

In 2023, the budget implementation achieved more than double.

According to Kinshofer, trade tax has not yet bottomed out.

The automatic calculation in municipal finances, which has been delayed by two years, worries the treasurer: “The influences of Corona have not yet fully arrived.” In the next few years, a further slump in tax revenues must be expected.

An easing of tension is not yet foreseeable.

Kinshofer also referred to the increasing district levy and the high prices in the construction industry: “You can actually get almost nothing for a million euros these days.

That can not be."

The political framework conditions would not make forecasts in municipal finance any easier.

“In big politics, the overview of certain areas is lost – not only in Berlin, but also in Munich.” There is nothing that can be done in the municipality or the administrative community to counter the developments – “except to continue to act sparingly and economically.”

And when it comes to “saving,” Kinshofer has a clear stance: “A little bit is always possible.”

The budget for 2024 was unanimously approved by the local council.

“The chamberlain always speaks plainly.

He and we in the community always have the same opinion,” said Vice Mayor Rudi Ottl, praising the administrative community’s finance chief.
