Director Thomas Wendl is the successor to Christoph Strödecke.

The new boy was now welcomed at the Geretsried high school.

Geretsried – The new head of the Geretsried high school (GymGer), director of studies Thomas Wendl, was officially introduced into his office on Wednesday morning.

His predecessors Christoph Strödecke, Dr.

Hermann Deger and Georg Mühlbauer paid the 41-year-old – one of the youngest school principals in Bavaria – the honor.

Numerous former teachers, the neighboring school principals, Geretsried's parish priest Andreas Vogelmeier and school district director Petra Burkhardt also sat in the auditorium.

One of the youngest in all of Bavaria: the new headmaster at GymGer is a Latin fan

Wendl is, so to speak, a returnee.

Born in Wolfratshausen and raised in Buchberg, he went to the GymGer for seven years before taking the advanced Latin course in Icking to take his Abitur.

He then studied Latin and Catholic religious doctrine in Munich to become a teacher.

This was followed by teaching positions at high schools in Upper and Lower Bavaria and work in the Ministry of Culture.

Greetings in Latin - New headmaster Wendl takes up his job in Geretsried

Because Latin is a great passion of his new boss, his deputy Kilian Krywalski first welcomed the guests in this language before expressly thanking Sabine Apprecht, the acting head of the school last semester, in German.

She led the GymGer through a difficult phase with confidence, competence and composure.

Krywalski as well as Ralph Bader from the staff council and representatives of the various student councils welcomed Wendl with advance praise.

After getting to know him for the first time, Bader said, he believed that the headmaster had everything he needed to handle the task.

“I’m sure you’ll be an asset to our school,” Bader said.

“At eye level”: Students are happy about the new principal Wendl

Three young representatives of the student council also praised the newcomer, saying that he had met them “on an equal level” so far.

Tanja Heilmann from the parents' council said that as a father of four children, Wendl knows the other side very well.

Self-deprecatingly, she offered that the director should contact the parents' council if he had any questions, because: "We mothers and fathers usually know everything better."

The high school is an “identifying feature” for Geretsried - and is being extensively renovated

Third Mayor Gerhard Meinl brought the city's congratulations.

He emphasized that the high school is an important identifying feature for Geretsried.

District Administrator Josef Niedermaier spoke of challenges - not only in terms of the division in society and the development in the areas of digitalization and artificial intelligence, but also specifically in terms of the work on site.

For more than ten years, the district has been responsible for renovating the high school and secondary school for around 60 million euros.

The cooperation has to work, there needs to be “short lines” to each other.

The ministerial representative Brigitte Grams-Loibl carried out the inauguration by handing over the certificate.

In her speech, the representative of the Ministry of Culture described leadership as a spiritual task that the staunch Catholic Wendl was ideally suited to.

She attested that her former colleague in the ministry was down-to-earth and close to home, but at the same time flexible, cosmopolitan and willing to compromise.

“It’s really good”: New headmaster welcomed in Geretsried - high school has a new boss

The new principal thanked everyone for all the warm words.

“It’s really good to be welcomed in such a friendly way,” said Wendl.

He praised the achievements of his predecessor Strödecke and the good training provided by Sabine Apprecht and the rest of the school management.

Wendl remembered that the focus at GymGer, even when he was at school, was on encouraging young people to become responsible people.

He would like to continue this principle as well as the particularly innovative thinking and actions at the high school in Geretsried.

Because even if the construction site currently dominates the picture on the outside: “The school's inner values are excellent.” This was proven not least by the musical contributions to the ceremonial inauguration by the youth symphony orchestra and the choir.
