Out of 1300 students of the Savarino scientific high school in Partinico, 797 (73%) do not want the institute to be named after Peppino Impastato, the militant journalist of Proletarian Democracy murdered by the mafia in 1978 for his battles against the clans.
According to the boys, Impastato, well characterized ideologically, would be a "divisive" character precisely because of his political affiliation.
Furthermore, the students contest a lack of democracy in the process which led to the naming of the school after the victim of the mafia, a complex process full of twists and turns, which concluded in recent days after two years.
"Our proposals were not taken into account", say the representatives of the students who, initially, had asked that the school, which bears the name of a controversial citizen of Partici, who was also a supporter of the racial laws, be named either after the former mayor Gigia Cannizzo or to judge RosarioLivatino.
"We have nothing against Impastato - they explain - We don't like the method followed".
The brother of the DP militant killed by the mafia is disappointed and embittered.
"Peppino is a character much loved by kids, perhaps high school students haven't studied his story", he comments.
