The open space cadastre project is making progress.

But there were now critical words from agriculture in the district council.

It was said that the roofs of the houses should be used first.

District

– The photovoltaic (PV) open space register is having an impact.

“Something is happening,” said board member Stefan Drexlmeier from Energiewende Oberland (EWO) in the district council.

There are currently many inquiries from municipalities, companies and agriculture.

It was the point that also determined the discussion after Drexlmeier's status report on the expansion of renewable energies in the Oberland.

“Let’s start with the roofs and not with the open spaces,” said Maria Dießl (CSU).

Currently too few commercial roofs occupied

The farmer keeps horses in Otterfing and was outraged by the expectations of the farmers.

Open-field photovoltaic systems on agricultural land are not an option for her personally.

“Those seeking relaxation would rather see horses grazing than PV systems,” she clarified.

And farmers wanted to produce food rather than just energy.

“There are currently so many commercial roofs that are not occupied,” she noted, “we don’t need to start with agriculture.”

Solar systems are the responsibility of the homeowner

Drexlmeier assured that solar systems on roofs would be a priority.

However, this is the responsibility of the respective owners.

There are currently solar modules on just ten percent of the roofs in the Oberland, and not even across the entire roof area, added his board colleague Elisabeth Freundl.

District Administrator Olaf von Löwis (CSU) also confirmed that pushing the expansion forward is not that easy.

The EWO board also wants to provoke with an area comparison

Farmer Dießl also reacted so angrily because in an EWO presentation, the area for keeping agricultural animals such as horses was compared to that for outdoor PV areas.

Accordingly, there are 3,828 hectares of animal husbandry in the Oberland, and the current PV open space is 54.1 hectares.

632 hectares would be required.

Football fields take up 266 hectares, golf courses 769 hectares.

“I would like to provoke with this representation,” admitted Drexlmeier.

Because in the debate there is always a warning against a mirroring of the landscape.

“You really can’t talk about that, you should leave the church in the village,” said the EWO board.

Involvement of farmers is essential

Green party spokesman Thomas Tomaschek considered the involvement of farmers to be essential - also in their own interest.

“Climate change is also depriving farmers of their livelihood,” he called for a rapid switch to renewable energies.

It cannot be achieved with solar systems on roofs alone.

“They don’t fill up as quickly as we need them to,” he noted.

“With an open space, there are a hundred houses in one go.”

Overbuilding of motorways and county roads?

When asked by Florian Hupfauer (FDP) whether they were also thinking about building motorways and district roads with solar systems, Drexlmeier reacted cautiously.

“We’re looking at what’s possible,” he said.

“With a required height of 4.80 meters, there would be advantages and disadvantages here too.”
