With 38,605 overnight stays, the Peiting market set a new holiday record last year.

The number of guest arrivals has also exceeded the pre-Corona level at 16,705.

Cycling tourists and online bookings are on the rise.

Peiting

– A few days before the traditional inn “Steingadener Hof” (Zum Buchberger) in Peiting closes its doors forever after 149 years, the 76-member Peitinger Tourist Association met there for its annual general meeting.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

In his speech, chairman Ralf Benning was delighted that the building yard had cut out the plants on the “Gumpen” and attached the duck houses in time for the start of spring.

You can already look forward to the Gumpenserenade on June 29th.

The men's choir of the Alpenrose traditional costume club, the Peitinger Alphornbläser and the “Eggbichlmusi” have already confirmed their participation.

Consider an alternative date

The highlight will be the “Steigerlied”, played together by the miners’ band and traditional costume band and the Birkland musicians, conducted by Mayor Peter Ostenrieder.

Andreas Schmid, together with the former mayor Klement Sesar, “father” of the musical delicacy, suggested that if it were to be canceled again due to rain like last year, an alternative date should be considered.

However, this is a difficult undertaking due to many scheduling conflicts.

Thanks to the fire department and fishing club

The “Dahlia Summer” in Peiting has been delighting holidaymakers and locals alike for 23 years now.

Most of the donors of the 60 square meter beds at five locations in the market town have been there from the start.

The dahlias are planted and cared for by the Leinauer nursery, while the building yard ensures regular watering.

Ralf Benning said a warm “God bless you” to everyone.

The tourist office and the municipality of Peiting always receive positive feedback from users of the mobile home parking spaces - because of the ideal location next to the outdoor wave pool in the middle of the town.

Managing director Andrea Deibler appealed to landlords to keep their offers on the Internet up to date.

Because the increasing number of online bookings has become indispensable.

The tourist association pays the costs for the information and reservation system (SECRA).

It was found that the average length of stay of just 2.3 nights per guest is due to the high number of business travelers and users of long-distance hiking and cycling routes.

It is definitely on average over the past five decades.

Peak values of 3.4 days per guest were only reached in 1981 and 1989.

There are currently 335 beds in the market town

The highest number of overnight stays was 63,532 in 1991. However, it must also be taken into account that the number of beds in Peiting has decreased from 422 in 2003 to 335 currently.

These are divided into seven hotels, inns and guesthouses with a total of 220 beds, three private room providers (13) and 28 holiday apartments (102).

The constant change also requires a rethink in tourism: While there was still a lot of skiing on the Schnaidberg in the golden 1970s, last winter there were only short opportunities for cross-country skiing.

With the long-distance hiking trails, Heinrich Vogler set the course for the future in good time.

“Peiting mobile” also had a positive effect: it saved long journeys through the town.

Long-distance cycle paths very popular

But there were also sad reports at the meeting: Unfortunately, there is currently major damage to the most beautiful section of the “König-Ludwig-Weg” through the natural forest reserve on the Ammer.

This is also used by the increasing number of pilgrims on the Way of St. James.

The long-distance cycle paths leading through Peiting, now supplemented by the cycle path to Birkland, are also a major asset.

This year there are again top tours offered by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) from Peiting.

Farewell to the “Buchberger” tenants

And an internal Peiting detail was also addressed: As reported, Rainer and Hanni Schäffler are closing their inn “Zum Buchberger” this Friday, March 15th, for reasons of age.

The Peiting tourist association took this as an opportunity to thank their board member.

“We are not only losing a Bavarian inn that was run with passion, but also our link to the Peitinger gastronomy,” said chairman Ralf Benning in his laudatory speech.

Deck chair and bouquet of flowers

The founding of this traditional restaurant in the center of the market town dates back to 1875. It has been owned by the Schäffler family since 1890.

Benning thanked you for the numerous meetings that “we were able to hold with you” and expressed his wish that “Rainer will stay with us on the board for a long time to come.”

The local newspapers in the Weilheim-Schongau district are represented on Instagram under “merkur_wm_sog”.

As a symbolic gift, Andrea Deibler and Ralf Benning presented Rainer Schäffler with a deck chair with the Romantic Road logo for his retirement.

There was a bouquet of flowers for his wife Hanni.
