It took a long time, but now the end is finally in sight.

The final construction phase has begun in the major renovation of the pilgrimage church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary of the Reutberg Franciscan Monastery.

The last construction phase in the pilgrimage church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Reutberg Monastery is the most complex

Sachsenkam – The Reutberg Monastery sits idyllically above the Kirchsee in Sachsenkam.

But for a few years now, the baroque hall church has been covered with scaffolding from time to time.

The reason was extensive renovation work on the church tower and roof structure, which began in 2021 (we reported).

The scaffolding has been standing in the pilgrimage church for over a year now.

After the extensive exterior work has been completed, the most complex construction phase is currently underway inside: The wall and ceiling paintings are being cleaned and the lighting (LED) is being rearranged.

The aim is to resume services in the church at the beginning of December and to have a ceremonial reopening in the summer of 2025, as project manager Hans-Jürgen Dennemarck explains.

The former Salettl in the monastery garden is currently serving as an interim church, “which is very well received by church visitors”.

The cost of renovating the Reutberg monastery church amounts to 3 million euros – DSD supports

The costs of all renovation measures amount to around 3 million euros.

Financed by numerous donors (archdiocese, municipality, Upper Bavaria district, Reutberg Monastery support association, various foundations and private donors).

The German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD) has supported the repairs with a total of 165,000 euros over the past two years.

A bronze plaque honors the DSD contribution to the repair of the monastery church.

Axel Hofstadt, local curator in Munich, recently handed the plaque over to Sister Benedicta.

The monastery is one of over 560 objects that the DSD was able to support thanks to its sponsors, the income from its trust foundations and the funds from the “Glücksspirale” in Bavaria.
