Thomas Bug leaves “Current Hour”.

He wants to have more time to take care of his parents.

Düsseldorf – Thomas Bug (53) was the presenter of “Current Hour” for 16 years.

He is now withdrawing from the WDR format for personal reasons.

Because he wants to have more time for his parents, he will only present “WDR 2 Afternoon” in the future.

For the family: Thomas Bug takes a step back at WDR

“Anyone who cares for parents will understand this,” explains Thomas Bug about his departure from WDR in a statement that the broadcaster announced on Thursday, March 14th.

The presenter has been running the format since March 2008 and looks back positively on his time at WDR: “The show was my journalistic home.

It was a great time with my colleagues.

Even when I leave the ship, I still feel connected to them.”

This is also how his team sees it, who will miss the moderator.

Stefan Brandenburg, WDR editor-in-chief for current affairs, explained in the statement: “Thomas Bug has grown dear to the viewers of the current hour over these one and a half years.

We in the team will also miss him very much.”

Not completely away from the television: Thomas Bug stays with “WDR 2 Afternoon”

Thomas Bug's decision to turn his back on the “Current Hour” was not an easy one.

He added: "It's not an easy step for me, but I'm staying in my WDR home and just temporarily giving myself more space."

Thomas Bug hosted the WDR program “Aktuelle Hour” for 16 years, and now he’s quitting.
