In a month it will be that time again: The Weilheim-Schongau district's annual training fair once again promises many exciting stands and special exhibitions on a wide variety of topics as well as useful information in all professional sectors.

District/Weilheim - During the next training fair on April 13th, the headmaster of the Weilheim vocational school would like to start work at the bottom.

“What I've liked in recent years is that the children are really into the craft and what we present here,” enthused Knut Seelos at a pre-release press conference and said, with a wink, that this was customer advertising at the very bottom.

For the IHK, dual training is one of the most important topics, said Cornelia Gaide, who believes it opens the door to a fulfilling professional life.

“The district has around 250 IHK training companies in over 55 professions.

We registered over 500 new contracts when training started last year,” Gaide reported proudly.

That is an increase of 13 percent compared to the previous year.

These numbers could give Kathrin Grabmaier from the employment agency in Weilheim some encouragement.

She herself would often not find it so positive.

“We see major challenges and upheavals in the areas of training and professional orientation,” explained Grabmaier.

“We are struggling with a variety of problems and Corona has fueled the whole thing.” There is still the trend of academization: high school students and FOS students are increasingly choosing an apprenticeship instead of a course of study, for which they were actually prepared with their primary school choice.

“A lot of middle and secondary schools say: 'The high school graduates are snatching away my training positions.'" That would cause problems, said Grabmaier.

That's why events like the training fair are so important.

“We need to provide more information and involve parents and everyone around us so that young people receive good professional support as early as possible in all types of schools.”

All participants in the trade fair kick-off praised the combination of information and practical exhibits on site.

The district is a pioneer and offers something very special.

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß (CSU) also called the training fair a win-win situation for everyone involved.

On Saturday, April 13th, young people, students, children and the whole family can get information in a relaxed manner at the Weilheim am Narbonner Ring vocational school - from craft demonstrations and a wide range of lectures on the training market and how parents can help with their career choice.

The fair is free and starts at 9 a.m.
