The Swabian Kolping people didn't have to think twice about offering shelter to traveling journeymen;
This is, so to speak, one of their primary tasks.
Markt Schwaben -
Adolph Kolping (1813 to 1865) is considered the father of the journeyman par excellence.
The journeymen's association he founded in Cologne is intended to provide wandering journeymen with a similar level of support that, in Kolping's opinion, only the family can offer.
Against this background, the Kolping people in Markt Schwaben didn't have to think twice before giving the 15 young people a place to camp for the night who knocked on the door of the Kolpingheim on Erdinger Strasse on Thursday evening.
A table tennis event was taking place there, like every two weeks on Thursdays.
After brief discussions with the two board members Martina Daschner and Werner Lampart, ex-boss Walter Daschner quickly agreed to allow the young craftsmen to stay overnight in the Kolping Hall.
Daschner: “I remembered 1989 when I was alone with a backpack in Kenya on the way to Kilimanjaro.
Here I was allowed to stay overnight with a young man in his own room, have breakfast with the family the next day and was then accompanied to the border to Tanzania." As for the stay in the market town, Daschner says: "Everything went great - as When I checked the Kolpinghaus on Friday morning, the final cleaning measures had been completed and most of the 15 journeymen were already ready to leave.
But they always made time for a souvenir photo next to Kolping's bust in front of the Swabian home.
