When Peter Muhrmann collapses at the market in Mülheim, a woman from Cologne saves his life.

Now the senior and the first aider have met again.

Cologne – For Peter Muhrmann, March 5th is his second birthday this year, as his wife says.

Because that day the man from Cologne collapsed.

All of a sudden he was no longer responsive.

His heart also stopped beating.

But thanks to Jenna Müller, he still survived.

Now the first aider and the senior citizen met again for the first time in Cologne.

Senior collapses on market square: woman from Cologne saves his life

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Cologne resident set up his stand on the Mülheim market square (Cologne-Mülheim district) as usual around 8 a.m.

But then everything turned out differently.

He collapsed, just like that.

Suddenly everything was black.

Excited shouts rang out on the market square: “Peter, Peter.” Jenna Müller also noticed this.

Due to the KVB strike, the nursing specialist was on foot on Tuesday morning and was actually strolling through the market square.

She immediately followed the calls and saw Peter Muhrmann lying motionless on the ground.

Passers-by had already put the man from Cologne in the recovery position and called the emergency number.

But Jenna Müller noticed that he was neither responding to pain nor breathing.

“She asked the caller to dial 112 again and report this to the control center.

She then turned Senior onto his back and began resuscitation,” said the Cologne fire department.

And that's exactly what apparently saved Peter Muhrmann's life.

Because in a case like this, every second counts.

Only when the ambulance arrived and emergency paramedic Sener Kilic took over did Jenna Müller stop resuscitation.

But for Peter Muhrmann the fight for survival continued.

“The team continued the resuscitation that had begun, administered medication and defibrillated several times,” the fire department continued.

The man from Cologne also had to be resuscitated in the ambulance.

Eventually he was even put into an artificial coma, it is said.

It wasn't until hours later that Peter Muhrmann woke up again in the university hospital and was responsive.

It quickly became clear to the senior: He wanted to personally thank his lifesaver.

The Cologne fire department was looking for the first responder from the Mülheim market square on Facebook.

With success.

“I was just happy,” says Jenna Müller about the moment she saw the search for her on social media.

“Absolutely lucky that he is doing well.

I couldn't believe it, there were tears in my eyes." About a year ago, a brewery waiter saved the life of a woman who had been seriously injured by gunfire.

“What a moment”: Cologne resident meets his lifesaver

Around a week and a half later there was a warm reunion between Jenna Müller, Peter Muhrmann, his wife and the RTW team.

“What a moment,” wrote the Cologne fire department about the meeting.

The fire department posted several photos.

“The fact that you, Mr. Muhrmann, are standing here today is something that only ten percent of those affected can do.

The rescue chain worked optimally and hand-in-hand and ensured that we were able to talk to each other just one day later,” says University Hospital doctor Christoph Adler.

Peter Muhrmann has now been able to leave the hospital again.

“Be like Jenna, don’t watch, act!

Our rescue chain needs you lay helpers,” appeals the Cologne fire department in the Facebook post.
