Twenty-three migrants from the Ocean Viking were disembarked in Catania, as a precaution.
The ship continues to Ancona, the port initially assigned.
The Ocean Viking had on board 359 shipwrecked people saved during four rescue operations carried out by the humanitarian ship of the NGO SOS Mediterranee: 265 men, 31 women, 20 minors accompanied with their families and 43 unaccompanied minors.
Also on the ship were the 25 surviving migrants rescued by the crew of the humanitarian ship after their dinghy from Libya sank.
According to the dramatic stories of the castaways, around 60 of their traveling companions died.
Due to the seriousness of their health conditions, two migrants were transported by air ambulance from the Ocean Viking yesterday, one died in Agrigento hospital, the other is hospitalized in Palermo.
Ocean Viking had been assigned the port of Ancona.
Precisely because of the general severity of the conditions of the migrants, many of them with burns and suffering from days adrift at sea, the crew and also opposition politicians had asked the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi to disembark the migrants in a nearby port of Ancona to prevent the situation from worsening.
