The independence party Nazione castigated on Saturday the agreement reached between the government and Corsican elected officials on a
“constitutional writing”
project providing for
“the recognition of a status of autonomy”
of the island, describing this agreement as a
“fault policy”
from the Corsican signatories.
“None of the causes of the political conflict which opposes the Corsican nation to the French State is capable of being addressed in substance by this draft statute”
, summarized the independence party during a press conference on Saturday in Ajaccio, believing on the contrary that this agreement
“is a lock and an obstacle”
.
Consequently, the party has already announced that its sole representative in the Corsican Assembly would not vote for this text which will be submitted to the territorial hemicycle during its next session at the end of March.
The approval of this document by certain nationalist movements Monday evening at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior in Paris
“constitutes a political mistake
,” criticized Nazione, formerly Corsica Libera.
For activists from the party of the former president of the Corsican Assembly Jean-Guy Talamoni, this document, which provides for autonomy for the Isle of Beauty
“within the Republic”
, is in fact
“an obstacle to the recognition of the national rights of the Corsican people and all of their variations: protection of the land, priority to employment, linguistic rights..."
The notion of “historical community” targeted
The notion of
“historical, linguistic, cultural community, having developed a singular link to the land”
, included in the document, is particularly targeted.
“It only has a declarative scope and does not create any specific right for the benefit of the Corsicans”
, according to Nazione, and
“this is not equivalent to the recognition of a people and their right to freely choose their future, to namely the right to self-determination
.
Nazione also regrets that
"
the possibility of a resident status
, which reserves the purchase of land and real estate for its beneficiaries, the increase in employment or even the protection of Corsican companies in the face of unfair competition from foreign groups (are) made impossible by the text endorsed at Beauvau
.
Finally, activists also believe that the
“co-officiality of the Corsican language is undermined by the absence, within the text, of any mention likely to derogate from article 2 of the French Constitution”
.
