The Brandenburg AfD is setting the course for a new state executive board in the election year.
The previous chairperson made a statement regarding the election.
Jüterbog - The previous Brandenburg AfD state leader Birgit Bessin is resigning from her position.
“I am no longer running for the state executive board,” said Bessin on Saturday at the AfD state party conference in Jüterbog.
She is ready to put the party forward so that there is no power struggle between her and Réne Springer.
He wants to run for state chairmanship.
“For me it is important (...) that we come out of this party conference united, that we stand as a unit, that we go into the election campaign together.” The party must become a decisive factor in the local elections.
Bessin was elected state chairwoman two years ago after acting as co-chairwoman of the state party following the cancellation of Andreas Kalbitz's party membership.
The Brandenburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified the AfD state association as a suspected right-wing extremist case since 2020.
“We are not a right-wing extremist party.
We stand on the basis of the Basic Law,” said Bessin.
The local and European elections are coming up in June, and a new state parliament will be elected in September.
