There is no other daycare center of this size in the district: 311 children will be accommodated in the Holzkirchner Kinderland when the extension is completed.
After a temporary delay, the work is now progressing quickly: the shell construction is scheduled to be completed in March.

– The year 2023 became 2025, almost nine million euros became 13 million euros.
But apart from the schedule, including the opening date and the costs, nothing has changed about the expansion of the Kinderland daycare center on Erich-Kästner-Straße since the beginning of the planning.
The daycare center, which opened in 2016 with a crèche group, four kindergarten and two after-school groups, is to be expanded to almost double its size.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in May 2023.
In solid wood construction and directly adjacent to the existing building.
The facility, which currently has around 160 places, can then accommodate 311 children - in two additional crèches, two additional after-school groups and three additional kindergarten groups.
“We probably won’t start with all groups at the same time,” explains Petra Götzenberger, managing director of Kinderland Weyarn GmbH, which, as the owner of the existing daycare center, will also take over the expansion.
“We want to remain flexible and adapt to needs.”
There is a particular lack of crèche places in wooden churches.
According to community spokeswoman Annika Walther, there are around 60 children on the waiting list for the daycare area (as of October 2023).
It is not yet possible to say how many after-school places are missing, as registrations are made via the municipality's central portal “Little Bird” and no comparison has yet taken place between the two facilities – Kinderland and Caritas – for the coming year of care.
“But experience shows that the need for after-school care places is great,” says Götzenberger.
The 50 after-school places in the children's area are shared by 60 school children.
The community has been working on expanding the daycare center on Erich-Kästner-Straße since 2020.
However, due to the upheaval in the construction market as a result of the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis, no offers for construction work that were acceptable to the community were received.
The municipality therefore stopped the tenders for the extension designed by the Munich architectural firm Hirner & Riehl in 2022.
By introducing a so-called material price escalation clause, the local council wanted to generate more usable offers from potential construction companies.
Construction work is now in full swing.
As Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) explained at the citizens' meeting, the wooden shell construction will be completed by the end of March.
Since the beginning of this year, the interior work has been taking place at the same time and the glass facade is being installed.
Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
“Despite the size of the facility, the architects managed to create a very familiar atmosphere in the groups,” says Schmid happily.
Petra Götzenberger is confident that she will be able to recruit the necessary staff.
“We are already very well staffed at the Holzkirchen location.” The existing permanent staff will be gradually expanded.
She also relies on an in-house training institute for career changers, which she is currently launching (report to follow).
