Personnel costs in daycare centers have increased immensely.

For the Olching fee model, this would mean that parents would have to pay a lot more from September.

That's why there is a discount program.

Olching – From September 2024, parents will have to dig deeper into their pockets again if they want their offspring to be looked after in a daycare center, after-school care center and kindergarten.

This is due to the immense increase in personnel costs, which the municipality cannot manage on its own.

However, there is good news: It will probably not be as expensive as initially feared.

The jumps should be cushioned somewhat with a discount program.

The fees still increase by an average of around 21 percent.

In the daycare center, for example, this means: For a care period of up to six hours, you pay 344 euros instead of the previous 284 euros.

Without the discount it would currently be 362 euros.

In kindergarten it is 172 euros (previously 142 euros, without discount currently 181 euros).

whirl

The topic was on the agenda of the most recent meeting of the main committee.

This was about the implementation of a model that was developed in 2021 or 2022.

There was quite a stir back then when the city wanted to increase the daycare fees after several years, based on the actual total costs.

The letter to parents before Christmas was followed by a massive outcry.

Olching made headlines, with some talking about fees tripling.

Stay fair

So negotiations began with representatives from the town hall and parents.

The big question: How can you manage the costs and still remain fair?

In other words: don't pass the deficit on to the parents 1:1.

The result was a compromise: In the future, the so-called base value should serve as a guide for the calculation.

This is set annually by the State Ministry and is in principle a flat rate of support for each child.

“The tariff development is taken into account here, but not the energy costs,” explained town hall boss Magg.

So you can see the increased additional expenditure on personnel.

In this model, parents bear around 19 percent of the total costs (around 28 percent from the state, over 50 percent from the municipality).

At that time, two stages were agreed upon.

In 2022, the fees were increased in a first step; a ten percent discount cushioned the most blatant fluctuations.

Now the next step will take place in 2024.

Bad surprise with new calculation

And there is a nasty surprise.

The current base value is 1,449.71 euros, which is 15 percent more than in 2022. “We assumed an increase of only six to eight percent,” Magg reported to the committee.

In consultation with the responsible speaker Tomas Bauer (CSU), it was decided to continue to grant a discount, but only five instead of ten percent.

The main committee was unanimously in favor.

Ingrid Jaschke (Greens) was the only one to comment.

She welcomed the two-year cycle.

“It corresponds to our request not to allow so much time to pass before fees are adjusted.” The city council will decide next week.

According to the town hall, parents who were informed in February say things are surprisingly quiet this time.

However, the situation has changed significantly in one thing: Olching is now considered a lucky island when it comes to the provision of daycare places - in contrast to its neighbors.
