Emmanuel Macron will welcome members of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (Crif) on the evening of Monday March 18 at the Élysée to mark the 80th anniversary of the organization, in a context of an increase in anti-Semitic acts.
The head of state will give a speech, as will the president of Crif Yonathan Arfi, from 6:00 p.m., said the Élysée.
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin will also be present.
The number of anti-Semitic acts recorded in France quadrupled last year, to 1,676 compared to 436 in 2022, according to the latest Crif report which deplored an
“explosion”
after October 7, the date of the unprecedented attacks on Hamas against Israel which led to the outbreak of war in Gaza.
Socialist President François Hollande also invited Crif to the Élysée 10 years ago for his 70th birthday.
