A fire in the community of Wildschönau (Tyrol), known for its ski lifts, presents investigators with a mystery.
A body was discovered in the ruins of the burned down house.
Wildschönau - The municipality of Wildschönau in the Tyrolean district of Kufstein (Austria), with a population of around 4,300, is considered one of the largest ski areas in the Austrian state with the lift network in the Alpbachtal.
On Thursday at 1:40 a.m., the Oberau district volunteer fire department was called to a burning remote house in the hamlet of Zauberwinkel.
150 firefighters fought desperately to save the isolated house
Another seven fire brigade units from the surrounding towns were alerted.
A total of 150 firefighters were on duty.
But they couldn't save the house; it burned down completely.
A high-voltage line running over the house turned out to be an obstacle to the extinguishing work and had to be switched off by the operator.
The water supply was also poor, there are no fire hydrants and no stream nearby that the fire department could tap into.
Two long fire lines were laid and tank fire engines brought fresh water on a shuttle service.
Embers still had to be extinguished on Thursday.
Danger to life for the firefighters while extinguishing the fire
“Since the remains of the house are in danger of collapsing and embers keep appearing, the search in the house is very difficult,” said Stefan Eder, spokesman for the Tyrolean police, to

The fire brigade then found a dead person in the ruins of the fire.
According to the police, despite an autopsy, it has not yet been possible to confirm whether it is a missing resident of the house.
One of the two residents of the house was missing since the fire, the other was proven not to be there that night.
He was discovered safe and well in a neighboring town.
