Who wants the skin of the cats of La Chevallerais?
Last week, a resident of this rural town of 1,500 inhabitants, about twenty kilometers north of Nantes, discovered with horror that Mimi, a stray cat welcomed into the family for five years, had been attacked.
Sprayed with drain oil, in this case, from the ears to the tip of the tail.
This isn't the first time this has happened to him.
His second animal, a domestic cat named Simba, also received similar shock treatment.
It was last fall.
“Our cat Simba came home one evening covered in waste oil up to the bottom of his front legs, as if he had been soaked on purpose,”
Justine, who takes care of the two cats,
tells Le
Figaro .
And last week, it was Mimi who sat in front of our bay window one day, completely covered in oil.
It had bright red eyes, the same muzzle…”
Waste oil is a harmful waste capable of poisoning animals if ingested.
The first cat was treated by a veterinarian, who had to anesthetize it, wash it and then inject it with antibiotics.
The second, more reluctant,
“did not let it happen and cleaned himself alone”
.
We hope this is the last time we find one of our cats like this

“During the first episode, the targeted cat almost passed through,”
Anthony Marsais, deputy mayor of La Chevallerais,
tells Le
Figaro .
At the time, the owner thought it might have been an accident.
She was deeply shocked that this happened again;
and this second occurrence seemed even more suspicious to him.”
The matter was reported to the Nozay gendarmerie by the town hall of La Chevallerais.
The municipality also took the opportunity to remind on its social networks that acts of cruelty towards animals are punishable
by “3 years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros”
.
According to Justine, both cats are now doing better.
“
We hope this is the last time we find one of our cats like this,”
adds the young woman who specifies that she has three domestic cats and feeds several stray cats.

, the departmental section of SOS Maltraitance Animale puts forward a lead concerning this enigmatic double attack.
“In this type of case where there is violence against domestic animals, you most often have to look towards your neighbors,”
suggests Véronique, the head of the association.
“They just can't stand finding cat droppings in their garden to trigger them to take action.
It’s all the easier since
the cat has become a pest ,
”
she assures.
Anthony Marsais confirms the proliferation of wild cats in the department.
“They cause a lot of neighborhood problems, sometimes to the point of becoming aggressive,”
he says helplessly.
Residents of the town prefer to feed stray cats rather than sterilize them - even though the costs are covered by the municipality..."
On February 3, the corpse of a cat was discovered in the north of the town, the along departmental road 132. The feline, a male with black hair, was not chipped.
