Flood protection that will cost several million.

A village parlor without an innkeeper.

And an important road project that is simply not being implemented: There is a lot going on in Habach right now.

Mayor Michael Strobl provided information about the status of the projects at the citizens' meeting on Thursday.

Habach – The bad news straight away: a new host has still not been found for the “Eichbichlstüberl”, which is popular with locals and tourists alike.

Mayor Michael Strobl said at the citizens' meeting that after many months of searching, there is currently a promising candidate.

But that has also been the case with previous interested parties.

In the end, they always backed out because of the acute shortage of staff in the catering industry.

Renovation of the primary school is almost complete

Strobl took around two hours on Thursday evening to give the around 80 citizens in the hall of the “Zum Trödler” bistro an insight into the status of various projects, report on completed work and talk about future plans.

The renovation of the primary school is now almost complete.

The municipality spent around 1.45 million euros to modernize the building's energy efficiency and make it fit for the all-day school concept, among other things.

The community leader hopes that around 40 percent of the eligible costs could flow as grants.

The necessary water pipe for the emergency drinking water connection with Penzberg has also been built.

Habach had to pay around 24,500 euros in planning costs.

However, these would be allocated proportionately to the municipalities that get their water from Habach;

for example Antdorf.

More tax revenue, but also higher district levy

Strobl also provided information about the new gravel pit that is being built on an area on the road from Habach to Dürnhausen, reported on the changed town center development plans, which are intended to reduce the use of building land in the village in the future, and gave an overview of the municipality's financial situation.

On the one hand, you can look forward to “steadily increasing” trade and income taxes.

On the other hand, the community was also affected by an increased district levy.

Flood protection takes away air for other projects

Above all, the “painful issue” of flood protection is robbing the municipality of any room for other projects, says Strobl.

The entire package of measures will cost around six million euros - an immense challenge for a small municipality like Habach, despite the expected subsidies.

“What could we do if we didn’t have the flood problem,” he said.

Two million have already been installed, the remaining four million euros are to follow this year and 2025;

including the flood-proof expansion of the Koppenbergweiher (we reported).

Strobl took a lot of time to explain the individual measures and emphasize how important they were in order not to experience a catastrophe like the one in the Ahr Valley at some point.

As far as the outstanding work is concerned, there is still resistance from an affected property owner.

However, the planning would continue thanks to the support of the water management office.

Mayor: Recommended procedure delays construction unnecessarily

One topic that interested many of those present was the planned bypass road from the Habach roundabout towards Antdorf.

This road will “hopefully come soon,” said Strobl.

In this context, he criticized the Bundestag member Alexander Dobrindt (CSU): At an on-site visit a few years ago, he advised the community to go through a so-called plan approval procedure.

But this unnecessarily delayed the implementation of the road construction.

Noise-stricken residents from Dürnhausen also expressed criticism of the state building authority: They were “held there for a year and a half”.

30 km/h speed is not possible in Dürnhausen

Contrary to what Dobrindt assured, a 30 km/h speed limit through Dürnhausen is not possible because it is a district road, the mayor regretted.

However, District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß, who was present, promised to inquire about this again.

Strobl said construction on the bypass could begin early next year.

In view of the criticism raised by Lenten preacher Thomas Kirnberger, alias Brother Thomasius, at the strong beer tapping that the community was doing too little for the youth (we reported), Strobl had to admit that the planned playground in Dürnhausen “has not yet been completed” because there is no affordable space can be found for it.

The youth room that has been desired for years still does not exist.

The most recent idea to build a tiny house on church property failed due to resistance from local residents.
