“It used to be said that only the rich could afford photovoltaic systems.

But that has turned into the opposite.” This is how Hans Urban introduced the Freisinger Bank’s third future dialogue with the focus on photovoltaics (PV).

Freising

- Hans Urban's credo at the Freisinger Bank's third future dialogue: "Nowadays only the rich can actually afford not to install a PV system on their roof." Because PV modules are cheaper than they have been for a long time, this applies to Urban used a sentence that came from Monaco Franze, namely: “A little something always works”.

The PV expert concluded the lecture on the big topic of energy with a practical approach and a talent for entertaining.

It's about the future of all people

“It’s not just about the money,” emphasized Urban, who tours the country with his lectures, but also about the future of all people in view of the climate crisis.

Here he put all the data and facts on the table to get things in the mood and also cleared up some rumors - such as that Germany had to import nuclear power from France because otherwise it would have gone dark.

"That's not true.

We exported electricity to France instead,” Urban said.

"There is always a solution"

As to why people should rely on PV systems, he answered himself as follows: “Because it's easy - - you always find a solution, it's always the same technology.”

A huge advantage at the moment is the prices for PV systems, which have leveled off at an almost normal level.

“I drive around a lot and when I see an empty roof, I think to myself: He must have money,” said Urban.

The times when PV systems were extremely expensive and were only worthwhile and financed through feed-in tariffs are long gone and are a relic from “the old world”.

Instead, it makes great sense today to “eat the energy you get yourself for breakfast”.

In his opinion, there is only one valid answer to the often asked question: “How big does my system have to be?”: “How much fits on the roof?” But he doesn’t believe in self-consumption with a large system and a good one to increase electricity harvest.

“No, save money anyway,” was Urban’s wish – there was no need to “heat the goldfish pond.”

His credo is simple: “PV systems really make a difference, and then we can tell our grandchildren that we have done something about the climate crisis!”

Memory should not be too large

Urban also has a clear opinion when it comes to battery storage: “It shouldn’t be too big under any circumstances – just big enough that it can be emptied at night.

Otherwise it’s just dead capital.”

Instead, you should simply manage things well and, for example, turn on the washing machine during the day when the electricity harvest is good.

He commented on the trend towards balcony PV systems as follows: “It always depends.

That's good for rental apartments, but if you have a roof, then you use it." There were also practical tips: "If someone calls and wants to sell PV systems, then hang up straight away.

If you’re not working to capacity right now, you’re not doing a good job.”

Finally, Urban turned to electric cars and made a calculation: “With a 10 kWp system, you can fill up with so much fuel within ten years that you can go around the world 16 times.”

The old joke: “If your electric car is stolen, it can't be far away” is no longer funny.

By the way, the Freisinger Bank has set a good example: electricity has long been produced on its roof for its own consumption.
