Rewe is having a Germany-wide premiere at the supermarket currently under construction in Berglern.

As the building contractor Adrian Scharl announced at an event organized by the Berglerner Bürgerliste, a boarding house will be built on the upper floor, which Rewe will operate itself.

Berglern – It is the first time that the retailer is planning to do this, Scharl announced after the successful conclusion of negotiations at the highest level.

On the upper floor, which Rewe has now rented, 25 rooms with a total of 50 beds will be set up.

“This is an amazing signal from Rewe to operate its own boarding house in Berglern,” commented Mayor Anton Scherer.

However, it was not clear to everyone at the meeting what a boarding house actually was.

In this type of accommodation, which was described in the citizens' list event as a "middle between living and a hotel", rooms are rented out with hotel-like services, but for a longer stay.

The bakery in the supermarket has also already been decided, said Scharl, but did not mention a name yet.

The investor also took the opportunity to dispel rumors circulating in Berglern that things were not going well on the construction site.

The supermarket is on schedule.

However, the work all takes place inside the building and is therefore not so visible.

According to Scharl's report, the electrical work and plumbing installation are currently underway.

The windows and the drywall work had been contracted out - the latter even to a Berglern company, he was pleased.

The building description for the supermarket alone is 500 pages long: “There is a different screed in every room,” explained the building contractor, describing how complicated such a new building is today.

Because the market must absolutely remain sustainable, he emphasized.

If automatic cash registers are installed, the data lines must also be correspondingly strong.

And retrofitting a pickup station for ordered goods must be possible without a conversion that requires approval.

In addition, food hygiene regulations have become stricter.

This had to be taken into account during the construction phase.

The logistical effort for the construction was also enormous: five living containers were built, plus a shower container.

Scharl particularly praised the good cooperation with the community, as there is always a need for coordination with the administration.

“Not a week goes by that we don’t talk on the phone,” he said.

As an example, the investor cited the telecommunications lines, which had caused problems: “I'm not allowed to pull an empty pipe through the street.” Nevertheless, Scharl is sticking to an opening before the Christmas shopping season.
