Highlights: The 8th edition of the Italian Geography Championships have been held in Carrara. The event involved 2,800 students from 119 schools, 64 provinces, 19 regions, plus one Italian school abroad (in Pula, Croatia) The students connected online with the IIS "Domenico Zaccagna" of Carrara to answer 300 questions, divided into 10 thematic blocks, on geography, physical and human geography, environmental protection, silent papers, human rights, geopolitics and flags.

The winners of the 8th edition of the Italian Geography Championships have been announced, dedicated to lower and upper secondary schools and held in Carrara with the patronage of the Tuscany Region, Province and Municipality.

The event, promoted by SosGeografia, involved 2,800 students from 119 schools, 64 provinces, 19 regions, plus one Italian school abroad (in Pula, Croatia).

The students connected online with the IIS "Domenico Zaccagna" of Carrara to answer 300 questions, divided into 10 thematic blocks, on geography, physical and human geography, environmental protection, silent papers, human rights, geopolitics, history of explorations and flags.


    The winners of the individual games were Lorenzo Biagini from Capannori (Lucca) for the first grade, and Gabriele Bernardi from Mariano Comense (Como) for the second grade.

In second and third place were placed, respectively, Gabriele Cattaneo from Capannori and Vittorio Parziale from Bacoli (Naples), while, for second place, Francesco Po from Carpi (Modena) and Greta Zandonatti from Rovereto (Trento).


    In the team ranking, the "1° Paolo di Tarso" Institute of Bacoli (Naples) excelled for the first degree, followed by the Ic Camigliano of Capannori and the Ic Sauro Errico Pascoli of Naples, while for the second degree the Itet ' Fontana' from Rovereto (Trento) followed by Meucci from Carpi and Monnet from Mariano Comense.


    The award for the best video went to the Iiss 'Galilei' of Poppi (Arezzo) followed by the Iiss 'Colamonico Chiarulli' of Acquaviva delle Fonti (Bari) and the Itet Pascal' of Foggia.


    The Open Championships, in which around fifty people were registered, were won by Cesare Targher from Folgaria (Trento) followed by Simone Bolzonaro from Anguillara Veneta (Padua) and Nicolas Abbrescia from Grottamare (Ascoli Piceno).

The first three classified of the sessions, together with the second classified of the institute, with their teachers, will be guests in May of the Regional Park of the Apuan Alps, in Equi Terme, and of the National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines at the Centro Montagna Verde in Apella.


    The winners for the best video will instead participate in the Festival delle Geografie in Levanto (Spezia) from 11th to 14th April.

On Saturday 23 March, from 10am to 1pm, the awards ceremony will take place in person at the Zaccagna-Galilei school in Carrara.
