It was not an easy decision for the Kreuth local council: the local tourist information office is to be closed at the end of November.

There were a number of requests to speak about this at the local council meeting.

Kreuth

– “Since the last closed meeting in November, the Kreuth local council has brooded over the issue and discussed it intensively,” reported Mayor Josef Bierschneider (CSU) at the local council meeting on Thursday evening (March 14th).

The reason for thinking about restructuring the tourist information center was the upcoming retirement of long-time TI employee Gabi Strobl.

TTT managing director Christian Kausch pointed this out early on - combined with the request that Kreuth think about what to do next with the TI, reported Bierschneider.

Kausch had already raised the question of whether there really was a need for five tourist information centers in the valley.

Now the decision was made to finally close the TI.

Tourist Info Kreuth: A lot of personnel adjustments have already been made

In 2021, the TI in Kreuth had already had its personnel restructured as part of the general TTT restructuring.

Employees from Kreuth were moved to the central services area, and the Rottach TI manager Angelika Drexler also took over management for Kreuth.

In 2023, the adjustment screws were turned again: Andi Kimpfbeck, who has been working at TI Kreuth for ten years, has been looking after the topic of active activities at the TTT headquarters half-time and the mountaineering village topic at TI Kreuth half-time.

Colleague Gabi Strobl has been looking after guests and hosts on site as well as the attached community library for decades.

In Kreuth, too, the TI's opening hours have already been reduced - according to Bierschneider, not least because the general development in tourism is increasingly leading to guests booking online and also obtaining their information via the Internet.

Bierschneider: The question of TI closure was discussed intensively for months

“Kreuth has intensively discussed the question of whether the TI is still needed or can be converted into an information point with a screen outside for months,” said Bierschneider.

The town hall boss admitted that the municipality's financial situation also played a role in the considerations.

“I wasn’t keen on the idea at first.

But now I see it as an opportunity that benefits us,” he made clear.

The tasks of the Kreuther TI employees must be distributed to new shoulders

Markus Wrba (FWG) summarized: “We have to weigh up the service for hosts, the service for the guests, the guest development and the financial situation of the community.” He predicted that the hosts would regret the step because they have a personal connection to Gabi Strobl.

Their performance is also beyond question, emphasized Bierschneider and stated: “The many tasks that are now being carried out by Gabi Strobl and Andi Kimpfbeck will then have to be placed centrally on other shoulders in the future.”

TI closure: Kreuth saves 100,000 euros a year

Martin Walch (SPD) emphasized how well the TI in Kreuth had always worked, but that change also had to be accommodated.

He recalled that the community had problems raising the contribution to the TTT budget: “Now we save 100,000 euros per year,” Walch made clear.

However, an information point only makes sense if there are no problems with maintaining the title of mountaineering village.

“It is important that the small Kreuth hosts in particular continue to have a competent contact person,” demanded Walch.

Only one local councilor was against closing the TI

While Wolfgang Rebensburg (FWG) asked for the info point to be made attractive and easy to use and possibly supplemented with a vending machine for marketing tourism products, Christian Bock (CSU) proposed a mobile host service.

He was able to gain the most from the decision, which was very clear against the vote of Leonhard Rohnbogner (CSU): “If the TTT and its advisory board focus on digitalization, then we are the pioneers in the valley.” A concept must be developed promptly demanded Bierschneider.
