A successful start: Freising rang in the Korbinians year - in the presence of countless people on Marienplatz.

Freising's future most popular selfie background has finally been revealed.

Freising

- Elisabeth Hermannsdorfer equipped herself with the most important things for the festival year at the city of Freising's information stand: she picked up the anniversary magazine, the cultural program, a few flyers and a paper bag with the festival year logo on it.

“The logo turned out really nice,” she says.

It is now 10.45 a.m. and the official opening of the Kobinian anniversary, including the unveiling of the large, red and blue 1300, is imminent.

“I’m really looking forward to the festival year,” says the Freising native.

She hasn't picked out any specific events at the moment, apart from the state exhibition: "I expect a lot from it," she says.

And then Elisabeth Hermannsdorfer goes into raptures for a moment before she goes back to her husband, who in the meantime has taken care of an anniversary beer and pretzels for himself and his wife: “I am so excited about what Freising has become in the last few years.” Seeing families with their children sitting at the open Moosach in the summer, feeling the life that now exists in the city center – “that’s good for your soul”.

Freising's most popular selfie motif

Freising has had more attractions since Saturday.

The Korbinian Year was opened as part of the Palmdult and the Easter Egg Market organized by Aktiven City - and the art installation, the large, red-blue 1300, designed by Fiedler & Partner, was unveiled on Freising's Marienplatz.

This honorable task was carried out by Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher, cultural officer Susanne Günther, partnership and tourism officer Anton Frankl, history officer Guido Hoyer and city priest Daniel Reichel.

Before that, Freising's city boss came to the microphone a little earlier than planned to start the ceremony.

A rain front was moving towards Freising, and that's why "the start of a special year", as he said, started a few minutes earlier in order to get all the program items off to a dry start.

Tobias Eschenbacher deliberately briefly discussed the life and work of Saint Korbinian, "I won't reveal too much about him today, because that's exactly what it should be about in 2024: taking a closer look at his life." Anyone who wants to find out more about the saint , this has been possible since Saturday on Bahnhofstrasse: Between Arpajongarten and Obere Domberggasse, along the wall to Domberg, there are information boards that reveal exciting details about the saint's life.

You can now get information on the way into the city between Arpajon Garden and Oberer Domberggasse.

And just as the weekend was all about this bishop, the spirit of Korbinian will continue to blow through the cathedral city throughout the rest of the year.

There was an intensive foretaste of this at the Dult stands: anniversary wine at Deacon Walter Schwind's stand, anniversary beer at the Weihenstephan brewery's stand, the Sparkasse Freising was there with its Korbinians medal in three different versions, and some shops in Freising city center also had the annual theme taken up, such as chocolatier Andreas Muschler, who has specially created anniversary pralines and anniversary chocolate in his range.

What will be offered culturally can be found in the annual program booklet, which you can take home with you.

And before the 1300 was unveiled and Freising's most popular selfie motif was finally freely accessible, priest Reichel wished everyone a lively celebration, also a celebration of faith.

And he announced the motto of the anniversary year: “live by faith”.

He invited people to help shape the church “so that we can learn from the crises of the past.”

Aktive City boss Max-Josef Kirchmaier briefly let his gaze wander and emphasized how much the city of Freising is continuing to make the city more attractive with the redesign of the city center and the soon-to-be-completed Asam cultural temple.

And he appealed to the guests: “Feel comfortable!”

Highlight: The newly arranged Korbinian March was heard for the first time on Saturday at the opening festival.

The Freising city band under the direction of Jürgen Wüst (r.) was rewarded with thunderous applause.

Now the time had come: the 1300 was freed from the red material and the first photos and selfies were taken.

And then, as the final highlight of the morning, there was the performance of the newly arranged Korbinian March by the Freising City Band under the direction of Jürgen Wüst.

When the thunderous applause had died down, the heavens opened and the guests opened their umbrellas.

The jubilee year has begun.
