Sitting in front of a café au lait, Clément, thick black beard and sleeveless vest in the colors of the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA), is preparing to leave for routine investigations.
“I have three reports to verify, a dog that regularly runs away from home, a litter that has disappeared – perhaps an illegal breeder – and suspicions against a municipal police officer who mistreats his dog,” explains this volunteer investigator.
On site, he will observe the condition of the animal, if it has water, food, if it is clean... He will also question the owner, as well as the neighbors, but always with a smile .
“It’s important, we’re not here to judge.
» After his visit, Clément will write a report, which will be sent to the SPA legal department.
“But three quarters of the reports we receive lead to nothing.
In 25% of cases, it is more a question of neglect and only 5% of cases, we are sure of proven mistreatment,” underlines the thirty-year-old.
