At the beginning of March there was an attack at the roundabout: During the night, an unknown perpetrator sawed down a linden tree that was standing next to the two main characters in the Eberhofer films.
But the story of the roundabout now continues.
Frontenhausen - Germany's most famous roundabout will soon be getting a new tree decoration - the Eberhofer roundabout in Frontenhausen (Dingolfing-Landau district).
At the beginning of March, a tree crime shocked the country: in the middle of the night, in the thick fog, someone sawed down the stately linden tree with a chainsaw, which had provided the two film characters Franz Eberhofer and Rudi Birkenberger with shade for years.
Eberhofer-Kreisel: tree help from all over Germany
The tree already existed when the Eberhofer roundabout was just a simple roundabout.
While the perpetrator is still unknown - the Dingolfing police investigating the matter would be happy to provide any information - there was damage of 8,000 euros - Mayor Franz Gassner (CSU) received offers from all over Germany, such as North Rhine-Westphalia.
“There was everything you could imagine in terms of tree donations.
There was even a linden tree ten meters high.
Or offers that you would also take care of the tree.”

There were also tons of encouraging news from German-speaking countries.
The tree was then awarded with a donation from the broadcaster Antenne Bayern. The linden tree, with its delicate circumference of 25 centimeters or eight centimeters in diameter, was handed over to presenter Wolfgang Leikermoser.

Since the roundabout is part of a district road, the district committee itself discussed the unique planting.
Green district councilor Christine Aigner said, according to a PNP report, “that a linden tree would sprout again, so we don't need to plant one.” But until it can be recognized as a tree again, district councilor Karl Wolf (ÖDP) objected, “there is “We haven’t had an Eberhofer for a long time.”
District Administrator Werner Bumeder (CSU) fixed the future appearance of the roundabout: “We will plant.”

Will the stranger with the chainsaw be known by then?
The level of evidence is rather mediocre, Mayor Franz Gassner is already piling deep: “If he doesn’t spill the beans,” he said, “then they’ll probably never catch him.”
