In the context of a brutal escalation of violence in the province of
Santa Fe
and with a latent fight against drug traffickers, an agent was
discovered with cell phones
who was trying to enter
Penitentiary Unit Number 1 of Coronda
to give them to the inmates.
According to the provincial Ministry of Security, the provincial penitentiary
was surprised when he entered the unit
to start his shift.
At that moment, as is usually done with all the workers at the site,
he went through a scanner and they detected
that he had hidden electronic devices.
After the alert indicated on the scanner screen, the penitentiary agent
was arrested
and placed at the disposal of Justice.
In addition,
the Ministry of Security made him available
and his exoneration from the force is being evaluated.
This
is not the first time
that something like this happens in Penitentiary Unit Number 1 of Coronda, since last
June
, a guard tried to bring in about
17 cell phones
, about 22 phone cards, 14 chargers, 10 headphones, about 20 thousand pesos and needles.
In December 2023, prisoners classified as "high profile" housed in Coronda were
relocated to pavilions
with permanent monitoring, after being linked to threats to Governor Maximiliano Pullaro, in the midst of his fight against drug traffickers.
