A Sparkasse ATM was blown up in Gammelsdorf on Saturday night.
The perpetrators are on the run.
It is not the first incident in the region.
Gammelsdorf
- On Saturday night, around 3:30 a.m., a Sparkasse ATM in a commercial building on the main street in Gammelsdorf was blown up using explosives by previously unknown perpetrators.
The good news: “Luckily no one was injured because it is purely a commercial building,” said Alexander Groß, press spokesman for the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office, when asked by the FT.
And: “The perpetrators couldn’t get any loot” – the police arrived on site too quickly.
The material damage, however, is immense, because not only was the ATM destroyed, but also the building - shattered windows, a destroyed door and a defective roof testify to the force of the detonation.
According to initial estimates, the material damage amounts to “200,000 to 350,000 euros,” said Groß.
Shattered windows and a destroyed door bear witness to the force of the detonation.

Even though we have already “received an increasing number of witness statements,” the press spokesman continued, there is still no trace of the perpetrators.
That's why the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office is asking for citizens' help: Anyone who has made suspicious observations before the crime, who has noticed suspicious people or who can provide relevant information about the crime, the perpetrators or the getaway vehicle should contact the Criminal Police Office - by telephone (0 89) 12 12-0.
The blowing up of ATMs is not an isolated case, as Groß confirms.
“This is a phenomenon that we have been struggling with for two to three years.” For example, two cash dispensing machines in Elsendorf (Kelheim district) were blown up almost two weeks ago, and in mid-February a Sparkasse branch in Wolnzach was the target of the perpetrators.
That's not all - Langquaid (Kelheim district), Neustadt an der Donau and Böhmfeld in the Eichstätt district are also on the list of ATM explosions.
After all: in January and September last year, reports Alexander Groß, 16 people from the Netherlands were arrested - a success for the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office.
And in the case of Gammelsdorf it is also hoped that the perpetrators can be caught.
The fire brigade was called upon early on Saturday morning: an emergency roof had to be installed on the destroyed building on the main street.

In addition to the police, the Gammelsdorf, Bruckberg and Moosburg fire departments were also on site early Saturday morning to secure the building and install an emergency roof on the building with the support of a turntable ladder.
“After about two hours, the scene was handed over to the police again,” says the report from the Moosburg fire department.
