Following the right-wing criticism against the appointment of retired judge Uri Shaman as chairman of the committee for senior appointments, coalition officials estimate that Prime Minister Binyamin
Netanyahu will postpone the vote on the appointment that was supposed to come up in the government today.
Shoham, said: "I welcome the decision. I call for the appointment of a person who will clearly conduct himself throughout his years of office without bias, pursue justice and work for the benefit of the State of Israel throughout his years of office. I thank all the organizations that joined and acted in this matter. We will continue to protect the purity of morals and cleanliness of hands ".
The vote on his appointment will be postponed.

The government was supposed to approve at its weekly meeting today the appointment of Shaham, who currently serves as the ombudsman for the judges.
If appointed, his appointment will last for a period of 8 years starting in May.
The Committee for Senior Appointments is the committee that examines candidates for seven senior positions: the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner, the head of the Mossad, the head of the Shin Bet, the Shin Bet Commissioner, the Governor of the Bank of Israel and the Deputy Governor.
The committee has four members and is chaired by the President of the Supreme Court, besides the State Service Commissioner and two public representatives.
The role of the committee is to examine mainly aspects of the purity of morals and if there were defects in the appointment, and it usually tends to approve the appointments that are brought before it.
Retired Judge Shame is supposed to replace retired Chief Justice Eliakim Rubinstein, who served as temporary chairman since August 2022 following the death of the permanent chairman, retired Judge Eliezer Goldberg.
The other members of the committee are Civil Service Commissioner Daniel Hershkowitz, Prof. Talia Einhorn and Moshe Teri.
