Requested by the parents of students from Saint-Doulchard (Cher), the public consultation on the wearing of the unique outfit did not, however, move the crowds.
Only a third of the parents of students in this town of 9,500 inhabitants went to the polls on Tuesday for a narrow “yes” victory: of the five schools in the town, three voted for and two against.
“It’s a shame because everyone has an opinion and, for once, we had the opportunity to express ourselves on a project concerning our children,” regrets the mother of a CP student, “tempted by the uniform at the “school, a tool that will perhaps help children to concentrate above all on their work”.
An outfit supported by the State and the municipality
However, she understands that households, among the least advantaged, feel “a little overwhelmed by other reasons for concern such as purchasing power”.
To convince the latter, the town hall had previously announced that the kit worth 200 euros, which will include three sweatshirts, a sweater, six polo shirts, a long-sleeved t-shirt and a sports outfit, would be covered - at equal shares — by the State and the municipality.
In favor of this government measure, the various right-wing mayor Richard Boudet has never made a secret of his intention to experiment with uniforms at school before “it becomes the norm”.
The decision will be definitively adopted when the school councils, which must meet by the end of March, have put this project to a vote.
It will then be up to the children to draw the coat of arms which will appear on their outfits.
